Calculating Super Guarantee payments for your employees - tax office clarifies its meaning of OTE
- The tax office has issued a new ruling clarifying its meaning of Ordinary Time Earnings (OTE).
- This is important because you need to use an employee's OTE to calculate the Superannuation Guarantee contribution (the 9% employer contribution) you need to make for them*.
* Important reminder for industry employers - you have extra super obligations to your employees that are outlined in special state legislation and the AUSCOAL Super Fund's Trust Deed. These obligations have not changed. Call us on 1300 AUSCOAL (1300 287 262) if you have any questions.
Reminder - you now need to record your employees' Reportable Employer Superannuation Contributions
- In our last Employer Update, we told you about a new rule from the tax office that means you need to report your employees' salary sacrifice super contributions on their Payment Summaries.
- Just a reminder to start recording these contributions as the new rule took effect on 1 July 2009.
- The first Payment Summaries that you will need to show this amount on will be ones you issue for the 2009/10 financial year.
