AUSCOAL Super and Maritime Super in merger talks
... a due diligence process is underway
Building on longstanding synergies between the maritime and mining industries and the close relationship between our workers and unions, the Maritime Super and AUSCOAL Super Boards have agreed to assess the feasibility of a merger between the two funds.
Fund Chairmen, Paddy Crumlin of Maritime Super and Arthur Weston of AUSCOAL Super, confirmed the two funds have signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
"We believe there is a natural fit for the two funds coming together that we are keen to explore,’ said Mr Crumlin. ‘We’ll be working through a process that will help us confirm the advantages and disadvantages a merger would deliver to our members, our employers and our respective staff."
‘We are looking for a net tangible benefit to members of both funds,’ said Mr Weston. ‘Both our boards are here to serve the best interests of our members and employers. At a minimum we are looking for a merger to bring greater economies of scale, efficiency and an even stronger overall market position’, he said.
A due diligence process is currently underway. The funds have not yet identified a target merger date.
