Certified copies of identification
... what is it and why we ask for it.
We know from talking with you that certifying documents can be confusing. Here’s some information on what it all means and why we need to ask you for it.
When you ask us to make a change to your super account, there’ll be times when we’ll ask you to provide us with ‘certified copies’ of your identification.
When we ask for a certified copy, we’re asking you to take a photocopy of the document, eg your Driver Licence, and have someone confirm or certify for us that it’s a true and correct copy of the original, ie it hasn’t been altered. There’s a special list of approved people who can certify documents.
Your super is one of your most important investments, so it’s important that it’s safe and secure. Asking you to have copies of your identification certified means we can be sure the copy is a true one and it’s you asking us to change your super and not someone else. There’s also times when the law says we have to do this.
